Some Important and Necessary Features of Commercial Lighting

Electric energy is one important form of energy that we use in our day to day life. The emissions caused due to energy consumption and generation is responsible for the major global impacts such as climatic change, smog, acid deposition, and particulates.

The cost of electricity consumption in offices and buildings forms a major part of their expenditure. Thermal and visual comforts are considered as a parameter for measuring the quality of working environments. In order to fulfill this need of energy and comfort, there are programs undertaken by the building managers to minimize the lightning energy requirements by installing efficient light sources that use minimal power and hence is cost effective. Several types of commercial ceiling lighting are available in the market which is also great for your lighten your working space.

Apart from this the light sources that are used must not hamper the quality of the work and put pressure on the eyes. It must be soothing and provide adequate light that allows smooth and efficient workflow. Few things need to be kept in mind while dealing with lights and such apparel for buildings and offices are:

  • Providing an adequate amount of light -level of illumination and ambiance
  • Providing light where needed – the area where work is taking place which includes position, disposition, and size
  • Providing light when needed – Giving control to the employees to switch on an off the light when it is needed.

The presence of proper and correct light in an area has an effect on the mood of the individual using that light. There are combinations used in houses where daylight and electric light sources are used to together to provide a visually vibrant, interesting and comfortable environment for the residents of the place.

Consumption of light energy can be done by:

  1. Turning off lights or dimming them during peak demand period when they are not needed.
  2. Reduction in internal gain in heat by cutting downlighting use .this leads to the reduction in HVAC system size and it reduces the cooling needs of the building.
  3. Occupants should have control to dim the lights or lower the light levels and save energy.

The lighting materials used in buildings for consumption include :

Incandescent bulbs, Halogens, Fluorescent lamps and high-intensity discharge lighting.

Out of these Incandescent bulbs are most commonly used and are preferred choice for industrial lighting, commercial led lighting has lots of properties and in some household areas. Compact fluorescent comes next in the order as it is commonly used in offices and workspaces where there is need of continuous switching on and off the lights.

Halogens are high power consuming light sources and are used in functional areas like lamp posts, marriage ceremonies, and matches. It produces up to 5000 hours of light but damages at a faster rate than other sources.

Conclusion: However when it comes to power and price saving people go and trust the following three also known as the Big Three. They are the incandescent, Compact Fluorescent and LED lights. With a power consumption ranging from 20 -40 watts providing a huge source of light by reflection properties of fluorescent materials these are popularly in demand in every household and office works.
